New York Hall of Science Initiative

ARNI collaborates with the New York Hall of Science on a range of educational outreach initiatives and events aimed at enhancing the engagement and knowledge of K-12 students across New York with neuroscience and AI.

ARNI is partnering with the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY to develop engaging experiential learning activities that teach younger students the principles of intelligence and algorithmic thinking, to be shared with students through other community outreach institutions.

Building on these key programs, we will also provide in-person summer research experiences for diverse undergraduate students and expand public access to in-person, innovative education programs via neighborhood schools and museums.

Goal:

  • To create museum events and activities that engage diverse youth and families in understanding AI, neuroscience, and brain function.

Impact:

  • In full launch, our activities and exhibits on brains and machines will potentially reach NYSCI’s annual 400,000 visitors, students, and families.
  • Empower and inspire young visitors to continue their exploration of neuroAI concepts.
  • An Activity Guide for Informal Educators on AI and Neuroscience, highlighting successful family engagement strategies for diverse audiences, will be shared nationally with informal learning organizations and partner Institutions.

Student Explainer

  • NYSCI recruits and trains a number of high school and college age students to support the museums initiatives
  • These students are given the opportunity to learn more about the sciences while engaging the community and facilitating STEM activities
  • ARNI assists the museum through funding explainers and providing material for neuroscience and AI programming

  • Graduate students, NYSCI exhibitors, and NYSCI student workers were brought in to provide input and test various ideas

Learning Goals:

  • Introduce students to common principles of natural & artificial Intelligence
  • Engage students with concepts of understanding the brain
  • Easily understandable and relatable
  • Create an experience for students to learn more about neuroscience and AI
