Teacher Fellow: Curriculum Development at the Intersection of Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence, and Society

About the Opportunity

The NSF AI Institute for Artificial and Natural Intelligence (ARNI) at Columbia University, in partnership with Neuromatch and Teachers College, is seeking an enthusiastic active high school Teacher Fellow to help co-design an innovative curriculum for grades 11-12 exploring the intersection of neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and society. Supported by the Dana Foundation, the curriculum will help students understand how brains and AI systems learn, where they differ, and the ethical and societal questions that emerge as AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives.

• Collaborate with an Advisory Board and work closely with a Curriculum Specialist to co-design and build engaging classroom lessons and activities in a digital format that can be implemented by teachers in their own in-person classrooms
• Bring the perspective of a practicing teacher to ensure the curriculum is practical, engaging, and aligned with high school classrooms
• Review, and refine instructional materials, assessments, and teacher resources
• Participate in regular virtual planning meetings throughout the development process
• Help facilitate a professional development workshop for approximately 15 New York City teachers in late July 2027

• Current or recent high school teacher in science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or another STEM discipline, with at least 3-5 years of experience
• Experience teaching in NYC public schools, grades 9-12
• Working in Title I schools is especially valued
• Experience designing or adapting classroom curriculum is desirable
• Demonstrated experience in adapting complex STEM concepts into accessible learning experiences
• Familiarity with NY high school learning standards is highly preferred
• Curiosity about emerging technologies and an interest in helping students explore how neuroscience and AI are transforming society

Fellowship Period 

• We aim to fill this role in October 2026
• Curriculum Development: October- May, 2027
• Teachers Workshop: July 2027, Closing Symposium: January 2028

Time Commitment
Approximately 3-4 hours per week during curriculum development (flexible schedule), plus participation in the teacher workshop in late July 2027.

Compensation

• $65 per hour
